Personality Topic: Character Study

Image
For my exercise in analyzing the personality of an individual that I know well, I did my boyfriend Cole.   I have known Cole for a long time, but only really started to get to know him in the past three years.   In this case, I know him pretty well.   For this project I had him take a personality test and talk to him a lot about this assignment.   I think I learned a lot about his personality and how we are similar and how we are different.   Also, reading all of these theories, readings, and scientists ideas on personalities have really helped in figuring out his.                    Cole is a person that is always laughing and making jokes, even when it is not funny or the place to do so.   He is rarely in a bad mood and when he is in a good mood there is almost nothing that can make him not feel happy.   He also loves being the at the center o...

Developmental Psychology

The question of Nature-Nurture can bring up a complex discussion when it comes to making points and having to prove why your "belief" is correct. It all depends on the topic and how passionate you feel about the debate between the two. Although there are good reasons to Nature or Nurture, they both could possibly be correct, there is no right or wrong answer. Three topics that really stir up a conversation would be studying aggressiveness in dogs, adoption study, and twin studies.         The nature-nurture is a debate within psychology concerning particular aspects of behavior are a reason for either inherited or acquired characteristics. Nature - genetic inheritance and biological factors         Example : Hair, height, color of eyes and certain diseases Nurture - the product of exposure, experience and learning of an individual            Example : P...

Interview on Music and the Brain

Image
I choose to do Music and our Brains and picked my suit mate Cossette to interview.  Cossette is part of the choir and has been singing for several years now.  She has always been interested in music and has been singing most of her life so I thought she would be the perfect person to interview; plus she is conveniently located right on the other side of our bathroom.  She gladly accepted and this is how our conversation went.       We are both a little awkward in the beginning, but I think we warmed up to the camera a little after a while.  I mean after all, it is weird getting film by some one and filming yourself.  I really tried to ask good questions about music and how she thought it affected her brain.  For me personally, music tends to help me study and block out all the other noise.  I really do my homework better when I am listening to my favorite songs. This is Cossette Rodriguez! ...

Sensation and Perception

Image
What is sensation and perception?  According to dictionary.com, the definition of sensation is, "the operation or function of the senses; perception or awareness of stimuli through the senses."  Also using dictionary.com, the definition of perception is, "the act of faculty of perceiving, or apprehending by means of the senses or of the mind; cognition; understanding."  From the research I have done and the videos I have watch, these definitions make more sense and have more meaning to me then when I read them before the videos.  I feel that I have a deeper understanding and know what the definition means when it says "stimuli through the senses" and "apprehending by means of the senses." In all the videos and pages that I read, it discussed how the brain sees, hears, and transmits messages that you can understand.  One of the videos that I watched discussed how  you can see and hear colors.  These interested me a lot because befo...

Brain & Behavior

Image
I decided to do this blog about how the brain pays attention.  I found this topic interesting because everyone has trouble paying attention and I thought that maybe if I found out how the brain pays attention then it would benefit me and improve this skill.  The first thing that captured my attention was the way he discussed how the mind concentrates.  There are two types of attention, over attention and covert attention.  We use both all the time in our everyday lives, and it is important to know the difference and how it works so that we can understand our brains better.       Mehdi Ordikhani-Seyedlar, in the video, is discussing the parts of the brain that controls how and what you pay attention to.  The brain can actually switch from one thing to another just by thinking in your head which one you want to pay attention to.  We do this every day like when there are a bunch of people having different conversations y...
